Hello, my friend, welcome back to Walking Together. I'm so glad you've joined me today. Before we begin, take one slow breath as you breathe. Remember how deeply you are loved by God. Have you ever put on a favourite coat before leaving the house? You don't think about it very much. You simply wear it. It becomes part of how you meet the world that day. I find it fascinating that Paul uses exactly that kind of picture. He tells us to clothe ourselves, not with expensive clothes, not with impressive achievements, but with Christlike character. Listen to these words from Colossians. Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Notice where Paul begins, not with what we must do, but with who we already are God's chosen people, dearly loved. Everything else flows from that. We don't become loved by being kind. We become kind because we are already loved. Kindness is never something we wear to impress God. It's something we wear because we belong to Him. Kindness is often quiet, it doesn't usually make headlines. It may simply be a patient response, a thoughtful word, a helping hand, a moment of forgiveness. Yet those small acts often become the clearest reflection of Christ, because that's exactly how Jesus treated people. He noticed those others overlooked. He welcomed those others rejected. He spoke gently to the broken, again and again. His kindness revealed the heart of God. Perhaps today you'll have an opportunity to reflect Christ. It may seem ordinary, almost unnoticed, but never underestimate what God can do through one act of genuine kindness, because every act of kindness quietly points towards the kindness of Christ. Here's today's sentence to carry with you kindness is love made visible. One phrase in today's passage has stayed with me clothe yourselves it's such an ordinary picture. Every morning we choose what we'll wear. We prepare ourselves before stepping out into the day. Paul says our hearts need the same intentional preparation. Before we enter conversations, before we answer emails, before we respond to challenges, we are invited to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience. Notice that Paul doesn't separate these qualities. They belong together, each one reflects the character of Jesus, and all of them grow from the same foundation. As God's chosen people, dearly loved. That order matters enormously. The Christian life never begins with behavior, it begins with identity. We don't earn God's love through kindness. We express God's love because we have already received it. Throughout the gospels Jesus consistently clothed himself with kindness. Think of the woman caught in adultery, blind Bartimaeus, Zacchaeus, the children brought to him, the disciples who continually misunderstood him again and again. Jesus chose compassion when others expected condemnation. His kindness wasn't weakness, it was strength under the control of love. As we've walked together through June, we've watched the fruit of the Spirit begin to appear love, joy, peace, patience. Now Paul reminds us that kindness is one of the clearest ways that fruit becomes visible to the world. People may never read the Bible, but they will experience how we treat them. Our kindness often becomes the first glimpse they have of Christ. Perhaps that's why Scripture describes God's kindness as leading people towards repentance. His kindness changes hearts, ours can too, not because we're extraordinary, but because Christ is living within us. Perhaps today's invitation is wonderfully practical. Before you leave home, before the first conversation, quietly ask, Lord, help me wear your kindness today. Let's pray together. Father, thank you that you have always treated us with extraordinary kindness. Help us become people who reflect your heart. When we're tempted to become impatient, give us gentleness. When we're tempted to become harsh, fill us with compassion. Help us remember that every conversation is an opportunity to reveal something of Jesus. May your kindness become visible through our ordinary lives in His precious name. Amen. Before you continue with your day, think about someone you are likely to meet today. Now quietly pray, Lord, let this person experience your kindness through me. Sit with that prayer, carry it into every conversation, walking this to day, notice. Who most needs to experience Christ's kindness through me today? Pray, Lord Jesus, clothe me with your compassion and kindness. Remember, kindness is love, made visible until tomorrow. Keep walking, keep loving, keep wearing the kindness of Christ wherever you go. I'll walk with you again tomorrow.
